Job Overview
The Royal School for the Blind, Liverpool is seeking caring, dedicated, and enthusiastic 1:1 Teaching Assistants to support pupils with special educational needs (SEN). This is a rewarding opportunity to help students with complex learning, communication, and physical needs achieve their full potential in a supportive educational environment.
Successful candidates will work closely with class teachers and multidisciplinary professionals to provide personalised educational and personal support.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide one-to-one classroom support for pupils with special educational needs.
- Assist students in accessing the multi-sensory curriculum and learning activities.
- Support the development of communication, social, personal, and independent living skills.
- Assist with personal care, feeding, toileting, mobility, and medical support where required.
- Help pupils participate in weekly swimming sessions and other school activities.
- Follow individual education plans and guidance from therapists and teaching staff.
- Maintain a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and support staff.
Requirements
- NVQ Level 3 qualification (or equivalent) in a relevant field.
- Experience supporting children with SEN is preferred.
- Knowledge of visual impairment, sensory processing, or complex medical needs is an advantage.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Patient, caring, reliable, and committed to helping children succeed.
- Willingness to undertake specialist training, including communication and therapy strategies.
