Job Overview
A welcoming primary school in Stockport is seeking a reliable and self-motivated Caretaker to join its dedicated team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong maintenance and cleaning skills who enjoys creating a safe, clean, and secure environment for staff and pupils.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the main key holder, opening and securing the school premises.
- Operate alarm systems and ensure the security of the site.
- Carry out routine health and safety inspections.
- Complete compliance checks, including fire alarms, water systems, sprinklers, and Legionella monitoring.
- Perform planned maintenance and minor repairs around the school.
- Carry out basic DIY tasks such as painting, decorating, and installing shelves.
- Clean classrooms, corridors, toilets, and other school areas.
- Remove litter and graffiti, manage emergency spillages, and maintain outdoor spaces.
- Carry out seasonal duties such as gritting pathways and clearing snow or leaves.
- Work closely with staff, contractors, and external service providers to maintain school facilities.
Skills & Requirements
- Experience in caretaking, maintenance, facilities management, or a similar role is beneficial.
- Strong DIY, repair, and minor decorating skills.
- Good understanding of health and safety procedures.
- Reliable, organised, and able to work independently.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Professional, trustworthy, and able to build positive relationships.
- Willingness to complete pre-employment checks, including a DBS check.
Working Hours
Term Time
- Monday: 7:00 AM – 9:30 AM and 2:30 PM – 6:00 PM
- Tuesday to Thursday: 2:30 PM – 6:00 PM
- Friday: 2:30 PM – 5:30 PM
School Holidays
Working hours will be agreed with the Headteacher.
