Job Overview
A welcoming primary academy in London is looking for a reliable and enthusiastic Catering Assistant to support the daily preparation and serving of nutritious school meals. This term-time role is ideal for someone who enjoys working in a school environment, values teamwork, and takes pride in providing children with healthy meals in a clean and safe setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with preparing fresh vegetables, fruit, salads, and other food items.
- Support simple cooking tasks under the guidance of the Kitchen Manager.
- Serve meals to pupils and staff in a friendly and professional manner.
- Prepare and serve hot snacks for the after-school tea club.
- Wash dishes, clean kitchen equipment, and maintain hygiene standards.
- Help arrange and tidy the dining area, including moving tables and chairs when required.
- Sweep and mop kitchen and dining areas after meal service.
- Follow food hygiene, health and safety, and safeguarding procedures at all times.
- Deliver excellent customer service to students, staff, and visitors.
Skills and Experience
- Previous catering, kitchen, or food service experience is beneficial but not essential.
- Good understanding of food hygiene and cleanliness.
- Friendly, positive, and patient attitude.
- Ability to work efficiently during busy lunch periods.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Reliable, punctual, and organised.
- Willingness to learn and follow kitchen procedures.
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
Working Hours
- 26 hours per week
- Monday to Thursday: 11:30 AM – 5:00 PM
- Friday: 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM
- 39 weeks per year (Term Time plus five INSET days)
