Caretaker Job

Schedule: 3–4 days per week, including Friday

About the Role

An excellent opportunity is available for a dependable and proactive Caretaker to join a supported living complex in Birmingham (B36). This role is ideal for someone who enjoys practical maintenance work and takes pride in keeping buildings safe, clean, and welcoming for residents, visitors, and staff.

Please note: Employment is subject to a successful DBS check.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain the cleanliness, safety, and presentation of the supported living premises and communal areas.
  • Carry out routine caretaking duties, basic maintenance tasks, and minor repairs.
  • Keep bin storage and waste collection areas clean and organised.
  • Assist with gritting and snow clearance during adverse weather conditions.
  • Perform regular inspections of communal areas and report maintenance or health and safety issues.
  • Record utility meter readings accurately.
  • Support key management and maintain key records.
  • Carry out routine testing of safety systems, including fire alarms and smoke vents (training provided).
  • Build positive relationships with tenants, staff, and visitors.
  • Report maintenance concerns and liaise with contractors and the housing team to ensure repairs are completed.

Requirements

  • Reliable, trustworthy, and able to work independently.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Practical maintenance and basic repair skills.
  • Proactive approach with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to identify and report maintenance or safety issues.
  • Must be willing to undergo a DBS check.
